Erasmus Quality Standards: a practical self-check

The short answer

The Erasmus Quality Standards (EQS) apply to every KA1 mobility project in school, VET and adult education, not only accredited ones. They are grouped under four headings: basic principles, good management, quality and support for participants, and sharing results. Use the questions below as a self-check before a report or monitoring visit.

I. Basic principles

  • Do we actively include participants with fewer opportunities?
  • Do we promote sustainable travel and environmentally responsible behaviour?
  • Do we use digital tools, virtual or blended mobility where they add value?
  • Do we take part in the Erasmus network, for example by hosting, sharing practice or supporting newer organisations?

II. Good management

  • Do we keep the core tasks ourselves: financial management, contact with the National Agency, reporting and decisions on content and quality?
  • Do we have a written agreement with any paid service provider, and are supporting organisations registered in the reporting tools?
  • If participants pay anything, is it proportional, justified and non-profit?
  • Are results integrated into our regular work?
  • Do we keep planned and completed activities up to date in the Commission’s tools?
  • Do we collect and use participant feedback, including the EU participant report?

II. Extra standards for consortium coordinators

  • Are tasks and funding shared fairly and in proportion to members’ needs?
  • Do members take part in decisions and in choosing hosts?
  • Do we share expertise and resources across the consortium?

III. Quality and support for participants

  • Practical arrangements, health and safety: are they covered?
  • Is selection fair, transparent and documented?
  • Are participants prepared, including language and cultural preparation?
  • Is there monitoring and mentoring during the activity?
  • Are learning outcomes defined before, evaluated after and recognised (for example with Europass Mobility)?

IV. Sharing results

  • Do we share results inside our organisation?
  • Do we share them with other organisations and the public?
  • Do we acknowledge EU funding in all communication?

How National Agencies check

NAs may run desk checks, monitoring visits and other activities. Accredited organisations also report at least once every five years on how they met the standards. Serious or repeated problems can lead to observation, suspension or, in the end, termination of the accreditation.

Questions coordinators ask us

Do the standards mention the Beneficiary Module by name?

No. The text speaks of “the Commission’s tools”. In practice this means the Beneficiary Module and related tools.

Can a course provider help us meet the standards?

Yes, for parts of standard III: a clear programme with learning outcomes, support on site and recognition documents. The core tasks remain yours.

Standard III made easy
Our courses come with day-by-day learning outcomes, on-site support and Europass Mobility.
